"In February 2010 I found myself at my heaviest and emotionally at my lowest. Having tried many fad diets and had a number of gym memberships with no success, I was afraid that I would have to accept the fact that I was never going to be a thin or athletic person. Holding out hope that I just hadn’t found the right tool, I began combing through the local gyms and personal trainers online until I came upon NWPT.

After my initial visit and tour of NWPT I knew it was a place I could feel supported, motivated and inspired to make the necessary lifestyle change I desired. I began my new journey with Kristen Healey. Her encouragement, personalized advice and intense training sessions saw me through one of the most emotional years of my life. At her recommendation I began attending group classes where I discovered indoor rowing with Ted Schatz and my physical transformation progressed from there.

Nearly 60 pounds lighter I am grateful to have found such a wonderful group of trainers who have helped me rediscover myself both physically and emotionally. Thank you all!"

"Three years ago, as a recently retired accountant, I decided I finally had the time to work on some personal fitness goals that, as a busy working professional I had long ignored. I'd recently moved to downtown Vancouver and was lucky enough to find NW Personal Training and began working with Leah.

Together we mapped out some goals and a plan to get me there. Three years later, I couldn't be happier. I've lost nearly forty pounds, increased the range of motion in a troublesome shoulder, and even feel that my increased fitness has helped improve my golf game.

Because I'm the kind of person who does best with support, guidance, and feedback -- versus working entirely on my own -- Leah and NW Personal Training have been a perfect match.
I feel healthier, stronger, and happier with the way my clothes fit. And, while Leah has worked me hard, she keeps it fun, new and different, and is always encouraging."

"I have been running & cycling for over 30 years. As a small business owner exercise has always been a great tool for stress management. I began to notice in my forties that I needed a more rounded approach to fitness. Injuries & maturation were taking their toll. I came to NWPT at the recommendation of a close friend over 5 years ago. As a result I am stronger, faster and healthier in mind & body than when I walked in the door. Thanks Kristin, Jason, Ted and Sherri."

Happy Momma
"When I walked through the doors of NWFC 9 months ago, I was an over-weight, out of shape mom of two, closer to 50 than 40 and pretty depressed about how I had let myself go. I wore clothes to hide my flab, was tired all the time and had zero energy. I loved to cook healthy food, but wasn’t making healthy choices when I made meals for myself. I made excuses as to why I couldn’t exercise or put myself first. I was creating an image for my family that I didn’t like or respect and I was setting a horrible example for my kids. I knew that I had to change. My New Year’s resolution was to start running (something I absolutely hated) and my goal would be the Girlfriend’s Half-Marathon in October. Now it was March and I knew that it was time to be my word. I registered for the “Learn How To Run” class at the Vancouver location and decided to hire a personal trainer to work with me here in Portland. Little did I know that this decision would alter not only my life, but my family’s as well.

When I first met Carol, I was embarrassed about my weight and how I looked. She took my measurements and to my chagrin, I was officially “obese.” It was just the thing that I needed to hear to get ready to change. That day, with Carol’s help, I set a goal of how much weight I wanted to lose and what the path to get me there looked like. I was motivated, even excited. I knew that this time, it would be different. And I was right.

I started out not being able to do much. Carol took it all in stride. She became my cheerleader and my friend. Through her guidance and wisdom, I started to see a difference, not only in how I looked, but even more importantly, how I felt. I woke up every day energized and excited to start my day. I became someone who looked forward to workouts and running became something that I “had” to do everyday. I was addicted! Before, I made excuses as to why I didn’t exercise. I was extremely busy with “life,” trying to juggle everything and not doing a very good job. Now, I am managing my time so that workouts become a priority and everything else fits around them. I became an expert at anticipating where obstacles might pop up for me and how I could overcome them.

I will never look back and will never be the person that walked through that door 9 months ago. I want to be running half marathons when I am 80. This May, I will be running the Rock and Roll Half Marathon, stronger than ever! I may even try a Triathlon, who knows? I see now how I was holding myself back and now how I can do it all. My kids now have a mom who is energetic, excited about life and who can do fun, active things with them. My husband has the woman that he married back, happier and healthier. I have learned that we cannot let fear or embarrassment rule our lives and make our decisions about our health and ourselves. We must live in the here and now, seeing (and believing) the potential that each of us has and honoring it through caring for and loving ourselves. It is a gift that we not only give ourselves, but those in our lives as well."

"NWPT has provided me with the motivation and workout plan that I was lacking. Since college I have been an on-off regular patron of a gym where I would go for a few months, work hard but then loose interest and quit until I got on the next gym kick. I didn't have the depth of knowledge I needed to put together workouts that kept me interested. 2 years ago when I first applied for a commission with the Air Force, I knew I needed to get in shape. I began going to the gym but quickly lost interest, as usual.

I came to NWPT with a set of goals that would put me at the top of my commissioning class, if I were to receive an offer, and Jenna and Kara have helped me to not only reach those goals, but exceed them. Thanks to Jenna and Kara, and the rest of the staff at NWPT, I can be confident going to Officer Training School for the USAF knowing that I will ace the physical testing!

You are just what I needed!"

"I have been a NWPT client now for over 5 years. I bid on a 3-month auction offer and found that the enthusiasm, support, and accountability at NWPT was the environment I wanted and needed to improve both my physical and mental health. If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be doing mini-triathlons… I would have said no way. Last year I did the girlfriends and Dudes Sprint triathlon and plan running another one for this year. I have enjoyed helping out with the various NWPT function like summer solstice, Girlfriends half marathon (where else can you see a thousand women having that much fun) and the Girlfriends and Dudes mini-triathlon. I have even enjoyed helping stuff goody bag for the hundreds of participants and getting up early in the morning to help setup. I have done training session with most of the trainer at NWPT and find they each have their own unique and style. I am currently working with Rob, 2 times a week and he is constantly pushing me both physically and mentally. I also have been enjoying Ted’s IndoRowing session so much that I am now doing them twice a week. Because of Ted’s guidance during these classes with my technique and endurance have greatly improved.
Thanks!
Rich"

"My turning point was seeing myself in the company Christmas photo. I knew I had been putting on weight. I knew that I needed to do something about it. Those were the thoughts vaguely floating in the back of my mind for almost a year. One glance at that picture though, and those thoughts were front and center – and screaming. And then this little flyer showed up in the office lunch room spouting off something about a weight loss challenge for a gym only a couple of blocks from my office. My goal was to regain a healthy weight, but NWPT gave me so much more than that. I have been a member for over a year now, and I have lost almost 35 pounds in that time. The weight loss is secondary, however, when I talk to other people about my experience with NWPT. I talk about how I actually miss my trainer Becky when I don’t see her twice a week. I talk about the people in the group classes like they are long-time friends. Everyone notices (and says something to me) when I am not in class. The accountability and support that the trainers and the other members give is amazing. We all want each other to succeed. I feel healthier and happier. I FEEL GREAT!!! And that spills into every aspect of my life. I am a better friend, employee, spouse, daughter, sister. My dog Barley is healthier too since he joins my husband and me on long weekend hikes. Most astonishingly to me is through all of this I somehow became a runner. After volunteering at last year’s Girlfriends’ Half-Marathon, I decided that I would dedicate one year of my life to running. I started 2011 by running a 5k in the Portland Shamrock Run. I just finished my first 10k at the NWPT Summer Solstice Run. I am super excited about running my first 13.1 miles in October in the Girlfriends’ Half-Marathon. Now when I see pictures of me running out of the water from swimming a ½ mile in the Columbia River as part of a relay team for the Girlfriends and Dudes Triathlon, I don’t scream. I laugh and smile and think about how much faster and further I am going to go next year."

"Training as a Hobby

Over four years ago, I was lucky enough to find my way into the Vancouver Studio of Northwest Personal Training. Little did I know, it would become my home away from home. What started out as a half hour a week ordeal is now an 8 hour a week passion. The amazing increase in the quality of my life and the high level of activity that I now enjoy is absolutely the result of Derrick deLay! I am continually inspired by Derrick’s sense of humor, his incredible knowledge, his energy and his lifestyle. I come away from every session wanting to eat better, be better, and work out more. My blood pressure is down, my cholesterol is down, my heart rate is down, and my weight is down. My weight is the lowest it’s been in 40 years. The only thing that is up is my age! But at this age, I feel better and am capable of doing more than I was at 20! I work out hard; I run, I swim and I bike. I have participated in triathlons, training, and running events and am training for my first half marathon in San Francisco this July.

Derrick has influenced my entire family and thanks to the results they have seen in me – they have all found personal trainers and have increased their physical activity. The ripple effect is truly unbelievable! Not only are they exercising more, but also most have switched to type of vegan diet…. We run the full range: vegan, virtually vegan, vegan-ish and vegan till dinner. In addition, the club activities and events (all of which are great fun) have allowed me to expose the club and the trainers to my friends. I am not sure I have ever had a relationship with a person or an organization that has been so productive!

I look forward to many, many more years with Derrick and the supportive team at Northwest Personal Training. Training is a wonderful hobby and a great sport. My many, many thanks for all the training, the information, the encouragement and the fun!"

"I first started coming to NWPT in 2003, shortly after Northwest Personal Training opened their doors. I had been exercising for years, walking 4 to 5 miles each morning, going to 2 or 3 Jazzercise classes a week, and training for 1 or 2 half marathons each year. But something was missing from my routine. I had been steadily gaining weight the last few years and nothing I did seemed to dissolve those extra pounds. Plus, I noticed that my arms were really getting flabby and I didn’t have the strength in my upper body that I would have liked. So, in October 2003, I decided a change was needed.

As soon as I walked into NWPT, I could feel the friendliness and personal attention. This wasn’t some huge gym, where I would be a nameless face among hundreds. This was a small facility, focused on client/trainer interaction. My initial instincts were confirmed during the first class I took with Sherri and have been reinforced by every trainer and staff member I’ve encountered since those early days. I initially came for 2 or 3 group classes a week, but have since expanded my workouts to include not only group classes 5 days a week, but also 2 partner training sessions each week with Rob and Derrick.

During the 7+ years I’ve been coming to NWPT I’ve lost 20 pounds and have found muscles I didn’t know I had. I can look at myself in the mirror when I’m doing bicep curls or arm raises and see muscle definition in my arms and shoulders. And, rather than walking 1 or 2 half marathons a year, I’m now running 3 or 4. I’ve also discovered a new found love in bicycling and have registered for the Seattle to Portland ride this July.

Just as important, if not more so, than the physical changes I’ve seen in my body, has been the support and encouragement from the NWPT trainers and the camaraderie from the many friends at NWPT. We run and cycle together, snowshoe and hike, and have even taken a number of trips together to such “exotic” locales as Lincoln City, Whidbey Island, and San Francisco for “destination” races.

All in all, I can honestly say I’m in the best physical condition I have ever been in my life. My daughters even sometimes tell me they have a hard time keeping up with me. (I’m not sure I totally believe this claim, but it makes me feel good to hear it.)

I plan to rely on the staff at NWPT now, and for many years to come, to help me “reach for my personal best.”"

"In the fall of 2005, I made a nearly four year commitment to take on a leadership role in Rotary where my volunteer commitment gradually increased. In the last year and a half the time commitment to my real job and my volunteer commitment was equivalent of having more than two full time jobs. There was no time for exercise, my weight went up, and I was not all that comfortable.

I knew that I wanted to get back in shape and get back to normal weight. I had a number of concerns being as I was now in my mid-fifties; the major one being the potential for injury jumping into exercising on my own. I had always worked out on my own, had never joined a gym, and had never even considered working with a personal trainer. At the time, a friend was working out at Northwest Personal Training and was very pleased with the result. I decided to give it a shot.

I was introduced to trainer Kristin Healey who did an assessment and informed me that I was more overweight than I thought based on percentage of body fat and my posture was less than desirable. The good news was that she thought that there was still hope!! I set up a regular time each week with Kristin and periodically added an additional session with one of the other trainers. On the days that I was not working with a trainer at the studio, I would do some of the exercises at home and also take advantage of my treadmill.

Overall, I was making progress, but I was not very efficient with the time that I exercised at home, so in March 2010; I decided to try out the group classes. The first benefit that I saw was that exercise time was much more efficient as a trainer had the session mostly planned. Workouts kept my interest as there was a rotation of classes during each time slot.

So now the results!! From October 2009 to November of 2010 I lost 15 pound. At face value, that does not sound like a lot until one dissects the number just a bit. During those thirteen months, I lost 25 pounds of fat, decreasing my total body fat by nearly 40 percent, and gained 10 pounds of muscle. I participated in and completed my first sprint triathlon in September 2010 with a time in the middle of the pack and I was the oldest male participant. You will find me at the studio most days from 5:30 to 7:30 AM in one of the various classes or with Kristin, most Saturday mornings, and occasional other times depending on my schedule. I enjoy all of the classes, but my favorite workout is definitely rowing as it is by are the most aerobic activity and the machine’s computer provides great feedback. Compared to September 2009, I am stronger, leaner, have greater flexibility, have better balance and form, and generally feel better. I also fit in to cloth that I could not get into at the beginning of 2009.

The key to fitness success is having a measurable goal, being determined and consistent, and great professional help to guide one’s progress. There is also the added bonus of friendships gained and the inspiration drawn from other client’s abilities and progress. Northwest Personal Training!!!"

"My name is Erin O’Connor. I am 34 years old. I have been married for 15 years and am the proud father of my 9 year old son Morgan O’Connor. All of this may sound very ordinary, but so far my life has been anything but ordinary…..

I got married to my wife Traci in March of 1995. At that time I was just 19 years old. Just a few short months later, tragedy struck. I suffered a massive brain hemorrhage and had a stroke. I was given emergency brain surgery, and died twice in the process. When the surgery was complete, I was in a coma for a week and ½. When I woke up, I had lost all function including my speech. The hardest area hit was my ability to use my right side. My left side was also very weak. We lived in various hospitals for months. I even did a brief stay at a nursing home. (That was awful).

We spent our first Christmas in my parent in law’s basement. I had to be cared for during the day while Traci was working. To say that our will and faith was being tested, would seem to be an understatement.

I continued to attend therapy sessions for several years. Eventually, Traci and I were living on our own again. I continued to make progress. I was eventually able to regain enough function to retrieve my drivers license. That was a very welcome development for both myself and Traci.

We purchased our first home. A few years later, our son Morgan Shea O’Connor was born. His first words at 10 months old were “car, truck, and Dadda”…..that’s my boy!

Next we decided to make a move and built the home that we currently reside in. We live in Ridgefield, Wa on some acreage overlooking the river. It is a very peaceful place to be.

I have continued to make progress. Northwest Personal Training has been a very important part of my recovery in the recent years. They have helped me to regain much of my strength, improve my balance, and help me in fighting the muscle “wasting” that can occur with a stroke.

I am very thankful to my trainer, Rob. He has been not only an incredible trainer, but also one of the best friends and encouragers that any one could hope for. He has pushed me and supported me like no one else can. He was there by my side as my partner when I completed my first Tri-athialon. He has been both my coach, and coached my son in soccer. I can honestly say, that I wouldn’t be where I am today without Rob. I pray for God’s continued blessing on him and his family.

Northwest Personal Training is full of such wonderful people. I am truly honored to be chosen as the customer of the month. Thank you for thinking of me.

I look forward to reaching even further heights in my quest for regaining my full self back. It has been a long road. But fortunately, God has carried me much of the way. I lead a very blessed life, and I am very grateful."

"I may have done a couple pushups before this picture to look presentable but there was a time when I couldn’t even do one. Very overweight, sedentary, and horribly unhappy, I never could have guessed that I would one day be in the shape I am today. My friends now find that person hard to imagine and sometimes I do to.
Exercise and nutrition are huge parts of my life. I have definitely earned my nickname “All-day-MJ”. I consider the holy trinity to be 1 hour of cardio, ½ an hour of strength training, and a yoga chaser. Rinse and repeat at least four times a week and take a long run on Sunday. I run, cycle, play tennis, practice yoga and play constantly. At NWPT I participate in group classes with Jenna, Derrick, and Leah, row class with Ted, personal training with Kristin, and work with Alison to make sure my nutrition supports my goals. Nutritionally, nothing is off limits but I focus on organic, plant-based nutrition and find myself consuming less and less refined sugar, processed foods, and animal products over time.
Of course I was happy to see the changes in my body and performance. I lost 50 pounds while gaining awesome muscles! I recently claimed the women’s 1000 meter women’s row record here at the gym, I’m a dragon boat gold medalist twice over, and have run several half-marathons. But the changes to my mind, mood, and attitude surprised and delighted me most. My abilities to delay gratification, to stay with things that are uncomfortable, and find something to enjoy in every moment, even when challenged (as you frequently are at NWPT) have greatly grown.
It may sound like I have all the time in the world but I run two businesses, work easily 60 hours a week, and parent two children. Time is valuable but prioritizing my health has improved all areas of my life and NWPT has helped me do this. There is just so much to participate in at NWPT and it is such a time saver to have most of my activities take place at a single location. I think the key to staying committed to a workout program is to keep it varied and be playfully competitive. A smile doesn’t hurt either.
I hope to continue improving the strength, flexibility, and balance of my body and mind and can’t think of a better group of people to lead me there. The trainers and customer service representatives at NWPT are so friendly and encouraging. It is so much easier to get to the gym when you know a good time awaits you once you get there. They have my whole-hearted thanks!"

"I first started working out at NWPT in December of 2007. Since then I look at working out differently –they have made it so fun and rewarding. I now get more out of every workout and I feel incredible. My day is not complete if I don’t go to class or have my training with Kara. I love the way she keeps me accountable.

When Kara told me she knew a guy that was looking for a workout partner I was a little hesitant. But since Dave and I have started working out together I have really improved my strength. Dave and I are pretty competitive and push each other to work harder and we have each other to help keep motivated –I think Dave may even do his first triathlon next year (pressures on Dave)!!! Kara and all the trainers push me harder then I would push myself if I were working out alone. Dave is an inspiration - working out just days after each of his knee surgeries! I couldn't ask for a better workout buddy!

I love the events –always something to look forward to and work towards. Not to mention they are a blast and have helped get my family involved in fitness. Now my wife, Jane, takes group and loves it!!! Alison has helped our family change the way we look at meals and snacks –and made it easier to plan meals. Personally the best part is all of the friends I have made, not only with the trainers but with fellow clients as well. We all push each other and hold each other accountable!! I really appreciate everyone at NWPT, especially Kara and Dave–thanks for everything!!! You all are amazing!!!

"I teach first grade and also lead a very hectic and stressful life. Before NWPT (even now sometimes) I deal with stress by eating!

I started coming to NW Personal Training about two and one half years ago. I began personal training with Jason and when he left, Ted became my trainer and I’ve worked with him ever since. Having struggled with weight issues for most of my life, I continue to be a work in progress. NWPT is helping me with the notion of a journey not a destination.

I’m learning to take each day as it comes, eating healthy, reasonable- sized portions. Ted and I have had many conversations about healthy eating and feeling full on the right foods. I’ve always been a breakfast eater, but never did the 5 small meals a day. Water is something I do lots of in the summer but now I’m trying to make it a year long practice.

Alison’s fat loss and healthy eating classes have been very beneficial. I’m eating foods I never dreamed of eating (nor wanted to) and finding they fill me up. I have way more energy, and have learned that I don’t have to have meat, chicken, etc. with every meal. I’m eating lots more variety of foods, reading food labels, watching sodium levels, and my diet coke habit is down to one per week!

I am so much stronger now than I was thanks to Ted. He’s a pusher ---but pushing me to go beyond what I think I can do has made me strong. He’s always changing up the routines so they don’t get boring (or easier!) and is quick to help make suggestions about what I can do to get a better work out or to stretch tight muscles. He knows when to challenge and when to be supportive and adjusts accordingly. I’ve also had the opportunity from time to time to train with Jenna, Sherri P. and Kristin. They too, bring their own twists to the workouts and are so supportive and helpful.

Stress is another big obstacle I am faced with. Much of my eating is stress related. I’ve started Kristin’s Yoga class and attended Derek’s night session on handling stress and I find myself doing a better job of “chilling”. I leave Ted’s workout and Kristin’s class on Fridays feeling soooo rejuvenated and refreshed. Lots of deep breaths, workouts, healthy eating, and being okay with a slip up from time to time are things I try to do now before going for food.

Bottom line, yes I knew most of these things, but it helps to have the support of others and the consistent reinforcement. I feel fortunate to have found such a dedicated, caring group of people who go out of their way to help guide me on my journey toward a healthy lifestyle.

Thank you!"

"I want to thank each and every trainer at NWPT for their support. With out their constant encouragement (nagging) my health would be in jeopardy. I started 20 lb’s heavier and could not do one pull-up, and maybe two push-ups. When I tried to run with Julie and made it one block. With the help of Ted, Kristin, Derrick, Leah, and especially Kara I have a new life in front of me. Running 10k’s and talking the whole way. I know this sounds strange, but maybe not to people that are reading this at NWPT, but I now do push-ups and pull-ups just for fun.

I have found the motivation with the help of the trainers and also partner training. I do look forward to the challenge every time as Kara pushes Robby and I to excel every time taking us to new levels in our personal training.

I could not imagine not being at NWPT or working out with all the great people there.

Thanks
Dave"

"I started working out at NWPT when they were at the Princeton Health Club and I made the move with them to their new and present location. In the beginning I would work with a trainer along with group classes every morning at 5:30AM! I currently come to group classes every day.

Some of the original group members still come to classes and we all are on a first name basis. Starting my day with exercise just seems to make the day go better. The secret for me has been to find a time that works for me and my schedule and sticking with it. Another motivator that gets me to class has been that "I'm paying for it so I'd better use it."

When I started, I thought I'd stay with it until I turned 75, and now that I am 75 Well, I'm just going to keep at it until the staff or my body says it's time to quit. I know a healthy diet and exercise have helped me survive breast cancer.

The group classes are really fun...a new challenge is always just around the corner... yoga, indoor rowing, kettle bells, body bars. The trainers come with such knowledge and expertise, and are always going to classes to improve their techniques and learn new ways to raise the bar on improving our strength and fitness.

"I wanted to let you know how much your Vancouver studio means to both Brian and I. We feel like it is our home away from home (perhaps because we are there 3 days a week). Every single person who works at the studio is so incredibly supportive, kind, and helpful! There isn't a trainer that we wouldn't work with, and everyone's positive attitude is catchy! It has made a huge difference in our lives and health. I'm sure you've heard it before, but just thought I'd let you know how we feel about it. Thank you for all you've done getting us ready for the triathlon! Brian's already planning ahead for the future, and probably should since we have a bit invested in tri's now!"

"(COMMENTING ON OUR 6 WEEK FITNESS MAKEOVER CHALLENGE)
This has been a life(style)-altering event that I didn't even want to participate in in the first place.

The biggest changes for me have been in diet and attitude. I have made concerted effort to try and eat according to a plan, rather than just grazing through the cupboards. I've eaten more fruit in the last 6-7 weeks than I would typically eat in a 2-year span. Pasta and breads are now whole grain, and quantities are way down. I stray more than I should, but much less than I used to. The more fun part for me has been the exercise. During the first 6 weeks, I did at least one cardio workout on all but 1 day. I dropped off a bit in the week after I hit my goal, but I've been back on the program and am intent on not back-sliding. It is now to the point where my day centers around my ability to get out and run or ride, or come in and row with Ted. My kids will tell you that when I don't get out I get very cranky.

I also need to give Ted a huge thanks. As I told him, his willingness to come out with our group early in the mornings and to keep on us individually and as a group, has been hugely motivating. He clearly isn't doing this for himself and I think he goes above and beyond (as I'm sure you all do) what we, as clients, have a right to expect."

"The main reason for my success has been the motivation of the 6-week challenge, combined with training for the Gals and Dudes Triathlon (my first).

Having Kara's guidance on meal planning, as well as the accountability that comes from turning in food logs and meal plans and weekly weigh-ins, have made a big difference.

I have totally changed my diet from very high carbs to a balanced mix of protein, whole grains, fruits, and veggies. Just eating protein at each meal, and including two small snacks, has kept me more energized throughout the day without feeling hungry.

Our daughters have also been eating more healthfully - more whole grains, low-fat fruit smoothies, ground turkey instead of beef, and fewer salty carb snacks. I am hopeful that they are seeing the difference that balanced eating and exercise can make in your fitness level and overall energy and positive mindset. I am trying to be a good example for them, and be able to keep up with them as I get older!

I can honestly say that at almost 45, I think I am more strong and fit than I have ever been, thanks to the expert training and encouragement and fun-filled spirit at NWPT."

Gena Bailey

"I have been obese and sometimes morbidly obese for most of my 54 years. Sometimes during those years I could not walk any distance comfortably. Recently with the help of Northwest Personal Training I decided to reinvent myself as an athlete. I, Gena, will complete the NWPT Triathlon on July 25th! I have already been working on my overeating struggles as part of my transformation and have been successful losing a large amount of my weight. I decided to take my learnings from losing weight and apply them to fitness. To lose a large amount of weight I needed to stay positive, take one day at a time, and have a plan. How could I apply the same process of changing my belief system about food to improving my fitness? Well, I needed help first of all. I signed up for Jenna's "Learn to Run" program at NWPT. In 12 weeks I have had unbelievable success. I went from being able to run a gasping one minute at a time to running an unbelievable 45 minutes without stopping. During the 12 weeks I also lost 33 more pounds! Jenna our trainer and the rest of my awesome running mates (Lynn, Katy, and Bernie) were so supportive and motivating! Half way through the 12 week class they had amazingly convinced me I could do the NWPT Triathlon! Knowing that motivation is in the doing I have been very busy training.
I am energized by the challenges that used to stop me. I not only signed up for the triathlon but will be climbing Mt St. Helens with NWPT in
September! Wonder, possibility, transforming, power, awe..... Gena"
